Hawaii Air National Guard - Customer Case Study

Hawaii Air National Guard needed a new low-observable/composite repair facility to support painting and maintenance of F-22 Raptor jets at Hickam Air Force Base in Oahu, Hawaii. The project required highly exact temperature and humidity control, explosion-proof equipment, strong reliability and redundancy, and energy efficiency to support LEED goals. Trane Commercial was brought in to provide direct digital controls and support the facility’s complex paint booth and hangar requirements.

Trane Commercial delivered a solution centered on Tracer Summit building automation, GE 90-30 PLC controls, Trane Modular Climate Changer air handlers, and custom heat wheel dehumidification units. The system automated multiple operating modes and maintained strict airflow, temperature, humidity, and pressure specifications while integrating facility management functions. The result was two custom paint booth hangars and a support facility that achieved LEED Gold Certification, with an anticipated $400,000 in annual savings from design efficiencies such as 80% recirculation of conditioned air.
