Hardin County Schools - Customer Case Study

Hardin County Schools, one of Kentucky’s largest school districts, needed a cost-effective way to address aging infrastructure, indoor air quality concerns, and classroom comfort issues while improving the learning environment for nearly 14,000 students. To support its “Helping Children Succeed” vision, the district turned to Trane Commercial and its performance contract solutions, including HVAC and building automation services.

Trane Commercial implemented a performance contract featuring hybrid geothermal systems, Trane Tracer Summit® building automation with Tracer ES™ software, water source heat pumps, rooftop units, and lighting retrofits across 14 facilities. The project has generated $5 million in energy savings, helping Hardin County Schools redirect funds to student initiatives such as textbooks, teacher hiring, and wireless access, while also contributing to eight ENERGY STAR® awards for district schools.
