Gundersen Health System, a physician-led not-for-profit healthcare network, faced rising energy costs of about $350,000 per year and set an ambitious goal to achieve energy independence while lowering the cost of care and improving sustainability. The organization turned to Trane Commercial for help, using retrocommissioning and building automation tools to identify energy-saving opportunities across its facilities.

Trane Commercial implemented a comprehensive energy strategy that included a Tracer Summit building automation system with Tracer ES software, chiller plant and cooling tower optimization, air handler controls, lighting upgrades, equipment replacement, and security standardization. The results included a 25% reduction in energy intensity and about $1.25 million in annual savings, while also increasing cooling capacity and supporting Gundersen’s mission and future expansion needs.
