Franklin Memorial Hospital - Customer Case Study

Franklin Memorial Hospital, a 70-bed community hospital in Farmington, Maine, needed a better HVAC solution for its renovated operating suites. The hospital wanted to satisfy surgeons, anesthesiologists, and staff with precise temperature and humidity control while maintaining operating room sterility and avoiding the high costs of excessive humidity. Trane Commercial was brought in to help with a turnkey HVAC system.

Trane Commercial designed and factory-assembled a packaged system using an IntelliPak air-cooled chiller, Custom Climate Changer air handler, CDQ desiccant wheel, pumps, piping, and Tracer Summit controls. The system was installed over a weekend to prevent disruption to surgery schedules and now delivers 50°F air at a 35–40°F dew point, maintaining operating rooms at 62–65°F and 35–50% relative humidity. The result was more efficient temperature and humidity control, and surgeons reported being very comfortable with the new system.
