A Trane Commercial Case Study
Edmonds Community College, a 22-building campus in Lynnwood, Washington, faced a tough combination of state budget cuts, rising utility costs, and aging equipment, including a boiler failure. To address its sustainability goals under the ACUPCC while improving comfort and staying within budget, the college worked with Trane Commercial on an energy efficiency project supported by an energy savings performance contract.
Trane Commercial helped implement a phased campus-wide solution that included HVAC and lighting upgrades, boiler replacement, chilled water and cooling tower optimization, server virtualization, direct digital controls, retro-commissioning, and active metering tied to an energy management system. The project delivered $253,000 in annual energy savings, $79,000 in annual operational savings from server virtualization, 1.4 million kWh in yearly savings, and a reduction of 3.9 million pounds of CO2 annually, with more than $2 million in utility incentives and grants helping fund the improvements.
