A Trane Commercial Case Study
Eastern Aroostook RSU 39, a school district in Caribou, Maine, needed to improve aging infrastructure across its schools to create better learning conditions, improve indoor air quality, and lower energy costs. Facing an inefficient steam heating system, rising oil use, and goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the district turned to Trane Commercial for help, using energy auditing and performance contracting services to identify the best upgrades.
Trane Commercial implemented a wide range of energy conservation measures, including a new biomass boiler plant, conversion from steam to hot water heating, new unit ventilators, lighting and refrigeration controls, low-flow fixtures, and a Trane Tracer Summit® building automation system. The project is expected to save more than 84,000 kWh of electricity, 40,000 gallons of heating fuel, and 354,000 gallons of water annually, reducing energy and operating costs by more than $235,000 per year while cutting the district’s dependence on oil.
