Complexe Sportif Trane - Customer Case Study

Complexe Sportif Trane, a 40,000 sq. ft. privately owned recreational sports facility in Boischatel, Québec, needed a mechanical system for its new ice rink that would be reliable, safe, easy to maintain, and cost-effective. The customer worked with Trane Commercial to find a solution that could handle ice-rink operating conditions while keeping first costs and operating complexity down.

Trane Commercial recommended a 250-ton water-cooled RTWD Helical Rotary Chiller with a matching dry cooler, along with Trane air handling and building automation components for the rest of the facility. The system delivered precise low-temperature control for quick-freezing the rink, improved safety by using 134A refrigerant instead of CO2 or ammonia, and supported heat recovery for domestic hot water and other loads. The result was a reliable, efficient, and comfortable facility with lower installation and maintenance costs, and the owner said the project could serve as a model for future rink developments.
