City of Sultan - Customer Case Study

The City of Sultan in Sultan, Washington needed major infrastructure upgrades at its Wastewater Treatment Plant and Booster Pump Station. Working with Trane Commercial, the city sought to reduce aging equipment and maintenance costs, improve reliability and capacity, lower energy use, and upgrade controls, lighting, and overall operational efficiency through a preliminary audit and investment grade audit under Washington’s ESPC program.

Trane Commercial implemented energy and process improvements at both facilities, including new DO sensors and SCADA/PLC controls at the treatment plant, efficient lighting and equipment replacements, five new booster pumps, a new pump station building, an emergency generator, and expanded SCADA at the booster station. The project reduced energy use by 122,786 kWh annually and saved about $10,400 per year, while also generating nearly $23,000 in incentives and more than $196,000 in Department of Commerce grants for the plant, plus significant capital replacement and operational savings.
