City of Dawson Creek - Customer Case Study

The City of Dawson Creek faced a serious safety and operational challenge when ammonia contamination was discovered in the brine mixture used for its ice cooling system at the Memorial Arena and Curling Rink. To restore service safely and maintain compliance, the city turned to Trane Commercial for a replacement cooling solution.

Trane Commercial replaced the aging ammonia system with a Freon-based system built around three Trane water-cooled Series R™ Helical Rotary Chillers and Tracer™ SC building automation controls. The upgrade eliminated ammonia safety risks, is expected to extend the facilities’ life by more than 25 years, and will deliver about $18,000 in annual energy savings; the project also helped secure a BC Hydro rebate of about $25,000.
