Chesapeake Regional Medical Center - Customer Case Study

Chesapeake Regional Medical Center partnered with Trane Commercial to address a major expansion that would add 49,000 square feet and increase cooling demand beyond the capacity of its existing chiller plant. The hospital also needed HVAC redundancy and wanted to eliminate CFC refrigerants from its system, all while supporting reliable care in one of Virginia’s busiest medical centers.

Trane Commercial replaced the old 500-ton chillers with two 1000-ton high-efficiency CenTraVac centrifugal chillers, added thermal storage tanks and a new cooling tower, and converted the chilled water system to variable-primary flow with Tracer Summit automation. The upgrades delivered N+1 redundancy, improved efficiency, and cut costs, resulting in more than $100,000 in first-year payback, annual savings of about $150,000 to $200,000, and well over $1 million saved over eight years, plus $10,000 in maintenance savings.
