Central Piedmont Community College - Customer Case Study

Central Piedmont Community College, a large community college with six campuses in Mecklenburg County, needed to upgrade aging infrastructure to support enrollment growth, improve the learning environment, and reduce energy and operating costs despite budget constraints. Trane Commercial was selected through a competitive bid to help the college pursue these goals through a performance contracting approach and energy-saving upgrades.

Trane Commercial implemented a Performance Agreement for Comfort from Trane (PACT) that included energy conservation measures, data center server upgrades, retrofitting more than 18,000 lighting fixtures, water-saving improvements, and integration of a Trane Tracer Summit building automation system. The project delivered more than $799,500 in energy savings over two years, exceeding the savings guarantee by 11 percent in year one and 19 percent in year two, while also reducing carbon footprint and improving campus-wide control of energy use.
