A Trane Commercial Case Study
Brown County in New Ulm, Minnesota, needed to replace an aging courthouse HVAC system with pneumatic controls that was nearing the end of its life, while also adding backup cooling for its Law Enforcement Center and reducing high energy costs during a tight budget period. Trane Commercial proposed an Energy Performance Guaranteed Savings contract to help the county upgrade its facilities using future energy savings to fund the work.
Trane Commercial implemented a turnkey project that included HVAC equipment upgrades, conversion from pneumatic to computerized controls, a new 90-ton rooftop air-cooled chiller, VAV conversion in the courthouse, electric reheat additions, and a lighting retrofit in six county buildings, along with a Tracer Summit building automation system. The improvements delivered better comfort, air quality, and cooling redundancy, while first-year energy savings exceeded $77,000 and countywide utility expenses fell by nearly 16%.
