Brookdale Baptist Church - Customer Case Study

Brookdale Baptist Church in Moorhead, Minnesota needed a way to rein in high electricity costs driven by steep demand charges. Although the church is occupied mainly on Sundays and Wednesdays, short bursts of high power use were causing more than two-thirds of its electric bill to come from demand fees. Trane Commercial was brought in to help identify ways to reduce energy use across HVAC and non-HVAC systems.

Trane Commercial implemented LED lighting upgrades, a new Trane Tracer SC building automation system, and custom demand-limiting triage controls. The BAS gave staff remote and on-site visibility into lighting and HVAC operation, while tailored programming reduced equipment use during low-occupancy periods without sacrificing comfort during services. As a result, Brookdale Baptist Church cut peak demand by 64 percent and lowered electricity costs significantly.
