Bentall Kennedy, a major North American real estate investment advisory and services firm, faced an equipment replacement challenge at its Sun Life Financial Center in Ottawa, Ontario. The forty-year-old, two-tower office complex had connected cooling systems, and Bentall Kennedy wanted to improve efficiency across the building while supporting its sustainability goals. Trane Commercial was involved in evaluating the aging cooling plant and replacement options.

Working with Trane Commercial and engineering partners, Bentall Kennedy selected Trane CenTraVac centrifugal chillers with heat recovery, Adaptive Frequency™ Drive technology, and a free cooling option, along with a variable-primary flow pumping system. The upgrade improved redundancy and lowered operating and maintenance costs, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2.5 percent. The project also earned more than $536,000 in government energy efficiency incentives.
