Belmont University, a rapidly growing campus in Nashville, needed a better way to manage energy and building systems across its 50-building, 4-million-sq-ft footprint. As enrollment more than doubled, the university’s mix of HVAC equipment, controls, and building automation systems from multiple vendors became difficult to operate efficiently, prompting Belmont to seek a single-platform solution. Trane Commercial provided the Tracer® ES™ enterprise control system and related controls upgrades.

Trane Commercial standardized Belmont’s equipment, controls, and service, integrating smart sub-meters, Tracer SC controllers, and third-party systems into one campuswide enterprise platform. The result was improved visibility into energy use, better scheduling and troubleshooting, and more proactive cost management. Despite a 70% increase in campus square footage, Belmont reported only a 10% increase in electricity costs, and its kW/sq. ft. dropped from 16.8 to 11.3 over seven years.
