Berlitz Japan, a leading language-instruction provider with about 1,600 employees across Tokyo, Osaka and 50+ locations, struggled with a Japanese-only applicant tracking system and semi-manual hiring. Non-Japanese-speaking candidates often had to email PDFs, hiring teams relied on spreadsheets, and the ATS lacked collaboration tools, user access controls and built-in email functionality.
After switching to Recruiterbox in 2014, Berlitz centralized hiring for all locations, created role-based user accounts, enabled shared comments and profile sharing, and began emailing candidates directly from the system with all messages and documents stored on profiles. The change automated much of their process, removed busy work, allowed custom application questions and questionnaires to assess communication skills, and gave local hiring managers immediate visibility into candidates and the hiring pipeline.
