Case Study: Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority achieves real-time ADA bus stop audits and streamlined design workflows with TRAISR

A TRAISR Case Study

Preview of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority Case Study

The MBTA used TRAISR to audit selected bus stops across their system, with a focus on ADA and MBTA accessibility requirements

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority engaged McMahon Associates to audit selected bus stops for ADA and MBTA accessibility requirements, identify deficiencies, and develop provisional cost estimates and design improvements. Field technicians used TRAISR’s Asset Central module on tablets to capture linked data, sketches and photos in the field for immediate upload.

Using TRAISR, field data was available in real time and centrally downloadable, enabling generation of audit reports and provisional cost estimates for each stop; McMahon is now developing preliminary designs for accessibility improvements at 50 priority bus stops in nine municipalities. TRAISR-supported audits covered landing areas, paths of travel, curb ramps and amenities, giving MBTA actionable, measurable information to prioritize and budget upgrades.
