How Novozymes Transformed Its Indirect Procurement and Achieved a 31% Productivity Increase

Novozymes, the world leader in industrial enzymes, faced fragmented, manual procurement across regions that undermined its “Easy to be a Zymer” initiative: low awareness of purchasing policies, inconsistent processes, and more than 60% of indirect spend going to non‑preferred suppliers, with thousands of new suppliers created each year. Procurement needed better organization, simpler systems and common KPIs to improve compliance and control indirect spend.

Novozymes consolidated its sourcing organization, standardized processes and launched a cloud e‑procurement solution (IBX/Tradeshift Purchase‑to‑Pay) integrated with internal tools, plus e‑invoicing, service procurement tools and a P2P governance board. The overhaul drove a 20‑point rise in contract compliance (42% to 62%), a 31% productivity gain, a 90% automation rate for purchase orders and freed resources to engage more with stakeholders.
