How TracPlus helped a Tesla Model 3 win the Targa West Car Rally

Targa West Rally’s Green Machine team faced a unique challenge in the 2021 event in Perth: their electric Tesla Model 3 lost horsepower when its battery dropped below 80%, so they needed accurate real-time tracking to coordinate frequent mobile charging stops. TracPlus supported the team with its RockAIR device and high-frequency tracking to help them manage locations and keep the car charged above the critical threshold.

Using TracPlus and RockAIR’s 15-second reporting intervals, the team could precisely locate the rally car and charging trucks, enabling fast, efficient pit stops with mobile DC chargers. The result was a standout performance: the Tesla finished first in its class over the four-day rally and, on the final day, won every stage in Perth, beating much larger rivals across all classes.
