Future Proofing Sustainability & Material Transparency

SMS Collaborative, LLC (SMSC) was engaged to help furniture manufacturer Studio Other meet rising material transparency demands and produce material ingredient reports (MIRs) for a WELL certification project. SMSC faced the challenge of collecting compositional chemistry across a complex supply chain—about 125 BOMs, 400+ materials and 60+ suppliers—and implemented Toxnot PBC’s integrated supplier-survey and product data management software to streamline outreach and data aggregation.

Using Toxnot PBC, SMSC imported BOMs, sent supplier surveys, masked proprietary ingredients while capturing hazard data, and leveraged linked materials and auto-calculations to manage the library. The effort resulted in data collection from 60+ suppliers covering 400+ materials, creation of 80+ MIRs, generation of all reports in roughly half a day, and a reduction in project time from more than a year to just six months.
