Taking Technology to Schematic Design

McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. is leading construction of the 900,000‑SF, 13‑floor “California Tower” for UC Davis Medical Center and faced the complexity of progressive design‑build—coordinating multiple design disciplines, trade partners, owner teams and packages from program validation through schematic and design development. To manage that complexity early, McCarthy adopted Touchplan to expose workflows and run Last‑Planner pull planning across the project.

Using Touchplan for more than a year, McCarthy organized hundreds of tags representing each discipline, enabled real‑time communication with the owner and design team, and embedded pull planning into its workflow. The result, according to McCarthy, is easier coordination of multiple phases and increments, faster identification and mitigation of constructability and schedule issues, and a team better prepared when construction begins—outcomes McCarthy attributes directly to Touchplan.
