Lahey Hospital & Medical Center - Customer Case Study

Lahey Hospital & Medical Center needed to relocate its General Internal Medicine department and a 4,000‑sq‑ft diagnostics fit‑out into a nearby 37,000‑sq‑ft site while meeting a fixed opening date (Aug 13), staying within 250 yards of the main campus, and delivering on a $8.5M, seven‑month budget and schedule despite a delayed start and late design changes. To manage the compressed timeline and complex coordination, the project team used Touchplan’s digital Last Planner® System and takt‑planning approach to digitize field planning and drive daily collaboration.

Using Touchplan, a Lean consultant and BOND’s project team decomposed work into flow units (exam rooms), established a takt rhythm and one‑day work sequences with a seven‑room batch size, and ran daily pull‑planning sessions to improve communication and accountability. The results: the build was finished five weeks early, returned 4% of budgeted costs to Lahey, improved cross‑trade coordination, and gave end users extra time for training and move‑in preparation — outcomes attributed directly to Touchplan‑enabled Lean collaboration.
