Granger Construction - Customer Case Study

Granger Construction undertook a $3.1 million renovation of Sparrow Hospital’s 5 Foster Pediatric Unit after pervasive mold was discovered, forcing a full rebuild in tight, occupied space with complex plumbing/valve work and a hard deadline driven by the impending RSV season. To manage the accelerated schedule, infection-control constraints, and expanding scope, Granger adopted the Last Planner System and implemented Touchplan with Lean consultant Hal Macomber to create a predictable workflow.

Using Touchplan combined with takt planning, the team broke work into four flow units, ran six-week plans with daily tickets and promises, and tightened coordination among trades and inspectors. The Touchplan-driven approach delivered the project six weeks early, allowed the hospital to operate at full capacity for RSV season, generated cost savings that funded additional upgrades, improved team accountability and predictability, and produced productivity metrics that helped Granger win new work.
