A Touchplan Case Study
The Boldt Company is building a new UCSF research facility totaling over 200,000 SF and $176 million, a project 20 years in the making. With about 14 months left and a large, distributed team of architects, engineers, MEP specialists and university stakeholders—many working remotely during the COVID era—Boldt faced coordination and visibility challenges. They adopted Touchplan as a web-based pull-planning tool to replace sticky notes and give off-site team members easy access to the schedule.
Touchplan delivered digital pull-planning boards, swimlanes to manage prefabrication and façade work, procurement tickets for long‑lead items (12–16 week durations), and real-time updates in the field, plus Insights to compare progress against the master schedule. As a result, Touchplan improved remote and in-person communication, enabled the team to take and edit plans on-site, prompted timely ordering of long‑lead materials to avoid delays, and helped Boldt identify variances and keep the $176M project on track for completion.
