Constructing Utah’s Tallest Building A Master Class in Precision Construction Planning

Salt Lake City’s Astra Tower project, developed by Kensington Investment Co. and built by Jacobsen Construction, faced major planning complexity as Utah’s tallest building came together in a tight timeline amid supply chain and labor constraints. The team needed a more precise way to coordinate field-level work with the master schedule, especially as the project scope expanded from 10 floors to 20 floors by the same rental deadline. Touchplan was used alongside Primavera P6 to help manage this challenge.

Touchplan helped Jacobsen Construction synchronize the Last Planner System with the critical path schedule, giving superintendents and trade partners a real-time platform to build, validate, and update plans before importing them into P6. This improved schedule accuracy, reduced risk, and enabled the team to adapt quickly to changes; most notably, they doubled the number of units available for rent in the first phase with no change to the overall schedule. Touchplan played a key role in helping deliver 20 floors by the original deadline instead of 10.
