Case Study: Jacobsen Construction achieves on-schedule delivery of Utah’s tallest tower and doubles rentable units with Touchplan

A Touchplan Case Study

Preview of the Jacobsen Construction Case Study

A master class in precision construction planning

Jacobsen Construction was tasked with delivering Astra Tower, a quarter‑billion‑dollar, 40‑story, 375‑unit luxury building in downtown Salt Lake City under a very tight schedule amid supply‑chain and labor constraints. To meet this challenge they used Touchplan (from MOCA Systems) as their Last Planner System, synchronized with Oracle’s Primavera P6 to capture real‑time, field‑level planning data and drive precise construction sequencing.

Touchplan was used to build bottom‑up, trade‑validated daily plans that were imported and scaled in P6, enabling bi‑weekly master schedule updates and rapid, accurate replication across 40 stories. As a result, Jacobsen Construction doubled the number of units available for rent in the project’s first phase—delivering 20 floors instead of the originally planned 10 by the same August 2024 deadline—while improving schedule accuracy, managing scope changes, and protecting contractual entitlements.
