York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust saves £100,000 on training a year with Totara Learn

York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides acute and specialist services for about 800,000 people across a 3,400 sq. mile, largely rural area. After a 2012 merger the organisation grew to nearly 10,000 staff and found its existing proprietary LMS was not flexible or scalable enough, forcing staff to travel long distances for mandatory training.

The Trust implemented Totara Learn (Learning Hub 2) with Chambury Learning Solutions to deliver mandatory and IT training plus nurse revalidation and performance management — features include programs and certifications, SCORM e-learning, seminars, SSO, appraisal workflows and integration with e‑Learning for Healthcare. The platform now hosts 686 courses, 274 programs and 37 certifications, averaged 9,222 course completions per month (about 5,600 required) in early 2018, and has cut training costs by over £100,000 a year while simplifying administration and improving user satisfaction.
