Case Study: University of Wisconsin–Madison achieves a customised, secure LMS for nursing and K–12 training with Totara Learn

University of Wisconsin-Madison implements a technically customised Totara LMS to deliver learning to two key audiences

The University of Wisconsin–Madison School of Nursing wanted to commercialize outreach courses for two distinct external audiences—nursing home staff through its Geri-Res programme and K–12 school nurses via eSchoolCare—but its WordPress pilot and spreadsheet-based registration were inadequate. The school needed a budget-friendly, flexible LMS that supported e-commerce with mandatory CashNet integration, bulk license management, server-resident data, and mobile-friendly content to replace legacy Flash courses.

They implemented Totara Learn with Totara partners eClass4learning and Synegen, who migrated and redesigned content, added custom themes, integrated the university payment system, built a notes/bookmarks plugin, and provided staff training. Launched in October 2015, the solution has run with no reported technical issues, earned strong user feedback, reduced management time and costs, and is being expanded with translated content and plans to scale to thousands of learners.
