The Met Office Doubles Site Logins With Their Infinitely Configurable Lms

The Met Office, the UK’s national meteorological service with 2,000+ staff and remote sites from the Atlantic to Antarctica, needed a single modern LMS to replace two separate, outdated Moodle platforms that limited technology use and central oversight. Seeking an open, highly configurable solution, they selected Totara Learn with Totara Partner Catalyst via the UK Government’s G‑Cloud.

Catalyst migrated both systems into a branded Totara Learn platform (live March 2018) and later integrated it with a new HRIS, enabling dynamic audiences, automated course assignment, seminar management for blended learning, and remote exam delivery during COVID. The change doubled unique site logins after launch and doubled again during the pandemic, supported international learners, and set the Met Office up to expand onboarding and informal learning with Totara Engage across a 600+ course catalogue.
