The Institute of Practitioners in Advertising saves £100,000 a year with Totara Learn

The Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA) is the globally recognised professional body for advertising and marketing communications, delivering flagship qualifications such as the Foundation Certificate in Advertising to learners in over 87 countries. Its legacy learning platform had become slow, non-responsive on modern devices, offered little self‑service for administrators, and could not support the move to online exams — issues that risked IPA’s reputation for industry‑leading CPD.

IPA moved to a branded Totara LMS with single sign‑on, a custom My Progress block, responsive design and a native mobile app, plus content curation via Anders Pink, enabling in‑house creation, publication and management of multiple qualifications. Learner satisfaction rose (97% rating learning as good or above, up from 93%), access became easier (about 95% rated access extremely or moderately easy), exam delivery improved, and support overheads fell — annual savings include £23,000 for the Foundation Certificate and £11,400 in support costs, with total estimated savings across qualifications of more than £100,000.
