Telenor's Leaders Create Their Own Self-directed Learning Expeditions

Telenor Group, a leading Nordic and Asian telecommunications provider with about 186 million customers and more than 20,000 employees, needed to accelerate a digital transformation and shift its leadership culture to become a digital services provider. With thousands of leaders across multiple geographies, the company required a scalable, user‑friendly, digital‑first learning solution that would support agile leadership and behaviour change.

Telenor partnered with Deloitte and implemented Totara Learn to create a personalized, Netflix‑style Self‑Directed Expedition Program made up of four “treks” where leaders choose tools and knowledge to build their own learning journeys. The platform was built and launched within a few months (Aug–Nov 2019) and delivered strong early results: within eight weeks 57% of enrolled learners completed all four treks (some business units reached ~80–100% completion), 86% of learners would recommend the programme, and the platform scored 3.5/4 for relevance. Telenor plans to scale the programme to thousands of leaders, citing senior‑leader endorsement as a key success factor.
