Society of Chief Librarians engages 80% of its workforce in just four months with Totara Learn

The Society of Chief Librarians (SCL), which supports public libraries across the UK, needed a fast, scalable way to equip staff to tackle digital exclusion—helping people who lack internet access, digital skills, or assistive support—and to strengthen librarians’ roles as local digital champions. With more than 4 million UK households offline and libraries serving as key access points, SCL required an affordable, role‑specific training programme that could reach staff across the country quickly.

SCL deployed a five‑module e‑learning programme using Learning Pool Essential powered by Totara Learn, featuring self-registration and dedicated helpdesk support to streamline rollout and measure impact. Within four months, 14,000 library staff—about 80% of the workforce—completed the training, boosting staff confidence in delivering digital services, delivering time and cost savings, and enabling libraries to better support vulnerable customers.
