SDS empower self directed learning to achieve 99% user engagement

Skills Development Scotland (SDS), Scotland’s national skills body with more than 1,600 staff, faced fragmented access to learning—courses and resources sat across seven different platforms. SDS needed a single, central learning repository aligned with its corporate vision, plus performance management that let individuals track CPD, engage in two-way development conversations with managers, and provide flexible reporting for managers and the organisation.

SDS implemented Totara Learn with partner Learning Pool, delivering a clean, easy-to-navigate SDS Academy with an eLearning library, workshop booking, and a customised dashboard for compliance and CPD tracking. The “My Contribution” performance feature enables learners to record and drive two-way discussions with managers. Launched in April 2017, the Academy achieved 99% workforce engagement within six months and nearly 4,000 hours of compliance learning, with strong uptake of optional development content.
