Science Museum Group benefits from 21st century online learning with Totara Learn-based skillslab

The Science Museum Group, which runs the Science Museum London, National Railway Museum, National Media Museum and Museum of Science and Industry, employs around 1,100 staff and 800 volunteers and welcomes over five million visits a year. Wanting to move from predominately classroom-based training to a modern, online-first learning culture, SMG needed a scalable way to boost engagement, provide consistent access for a fluctuating workforce and cut the significant administrative time spent managing training.

Learning Nexus implemented Totara Learn to create “skillslab,” a group-wide online learning hub that gives colleagues 24/7 access, supports compliance reporting, automation and single sign-on. Launched with mandatory health & safety courses, the platform has reduced admin hours through automated notifications and reporting, improved access and collaboration across all five museums, and helped shift SMG’s L&D culture into the 21st century.
