Red Hat Chooses Totara Learn to Support Its Open Source Ethos

Red Hat, the world’s leading provider of enterprise open source solutions, faced rapid headcount growth (10–20% annually) that made it hard to deliver consistent, multi‑month onboarding and learning paths at scale. The company needed a simpler, distraction‑free way for employees to find and resume rich learning programs and for managers to quickly monitor team progress.

Red Hat partnered with Synegen to build Red Hat University, an open learning experience platform that uses Totara Learn as the backend and federates content from Red Hat’s LMS plus LinkedIn Learning, Kaltura, Allego and others. Launched in March 2019, the solution gives learners clear progress tracking, federated search and manager dashboards; 66% of employees have used the system, 79% of those are returning users, engagement is rising, and the platform is seeing global adoption across 80+ countries while continuing to evolve.
