Case Study: Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre achieves broader access to specialist cancer education with Totara

Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre (Peter Mac) extends specialised cancer education and training program to national and international audiences

Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Australia’s only public health service dedicated solely to cancer care, needed a way to extend its specialist education and training beyond internal staff and students to external audiences. Using Totara Learn as the LMS behind its “Learning Hub,” the centre wanted to support blended learning while adding a secure way to offer fee-for-service courses and free specialist programs online.

Totara helped Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre implement eCommerce into the Learning Hub by integrating the catalogue with Securepay, enabling users to browse, register, and pay for courses or enroll in free education. The project was delivered on time and on budget, improved security with two-factor authentication, and simplified bookings and payments, reducing staff administration. By 2023, 56 courses were available for purchase, with the system supporting 20 specialist programs, over 50 fee-paying sessions, and 452 participants, plus 117 self-registered learners in a free cancer fatigue module.
