A Totara Case Study
NELFT (North East London NHS Foundation Trust) is a large provider of community and mental health services with an annual budget of £400m, serving around 4.3 million people and employing some 6,000 staff across 210 bases plus 3,000 temporary staff. Faced with multiple disconnected IT systems and passwords, NELFT needed a single, easy-to-use workforce development platform to bring together training, non‑medical appraisal, supervision and NMC nurse revalidation.
Working with Chambury Learning Solutions and internal stakeholders, NELFT built and launched the STEPS LMS in two phases (training, supervision and revalidation in Sept 2018; appraisals in Feb 2019), integrating four workflows into one system. STEPS has driven strong engagement (over 5,000 logins in the last 30 days, 6,355 in 90 days and 7,903 active users in 12 months), lifted core skills compliance from about 85% to above 95% in nearly all topics, improved appraisal compliance in areas such as Waltham Forest (84.06%), and received consistently positive staff feedback.
