Kmart Enjoys Huge Cost Savings With the Adaptability and Freedom of Totara Learn

Kmart Pty Ltd, one of Australia and New Zealand’s largest retailers with over 35,000 team members and 8,000 new hires yearly, faced a training challenge: low store bandwidth, limited access to laptops/PCs, and the need to assign role- and location-specific learning quickly without pulling staff off the shop floor. Their legacy Totara Learn v2 setup relied on a single manager desktop and outsourced, tablet-formatted content that made timely, scalable induction and compliance training difficult.

Kmart upgraded to Totara Learn v12, brought learning design in‑house and launched KmartWay — a set of 12+ learner pathways delivered via customizable dashboards, notifications and store portable data terminals (PDTs). The new approach made training accessible anytime on any device, cut manager induction time, improved completion speed and reporting, and drove strong engagement: over 8,000 completions in the first six months with learner ratings around 4.6/5, plus measurable productivity and compliance improvements.
