Jichi Medical University Hospital uses a certificate plugin to make attendance management more efficient

Jichi Medical University Hospital, a major teaching hospital with 1,132 beds and 46 clinical sections, needed a more effective way to manage mandatory compliance training. Their previous Moodle-based setup required separate LMS logins, lacked built-in face-to-face seminar management and robust reporting, and made attendance tracking and follow-up quizzes cumbersome. With their LMS contract up for renewal they sought single sign-on, better usability, and clearer administrative workflows between university and hospital staff.

Working with Totara partner Human Science, the hospital migrated to Totara Learn, which offered native seminar management, a familiar Moodle-like interface, LDAP single sign-on, and plug-in support. Human Science implemented seminar attendance tracking, post-seminar comprehension quizzes, and the Simple Certificate plugin to streamline verification; enhanced reporting and dashboards now give department managers clear visibility of completion rates. The move improved user experience and administration efficiency, and the hospital is exploring Open Badges and additional reporting plug-ins to extend functionality.
