Case Study: H.W. Richardson Group achieves faster, more transparent training with Totara

How Catalyst IT, NZ Police and H.W. Richardson Group collaborated on the OJT plugin to transform training

H.W. Richardson Group, a large New Zealand transport company, was managing on-the-job training assessments manually in Totara, which made the process slow, paper-based, and hard to track. Working with Totara partner Catalyst IT, they faced the same challenge as NZ Police: improving visibility into learner progress and reducing administrative overhead.

Totara and Catalyst IT co-developed an enhanced OJT plugin that digitized recurring assessments, improved reporting, added RAG status indicators, and made results easier to manage across digital and print formats. Since going live in December 2022, H.W. Richardson Group has saved an estimated 1,480 hours of admin time, while gaining real-time visibility for drivers and managers.
