How BDS Transformed Learning with Totara

Bundesverband Deutscher Stahlhandel (BDS), the trade association for Germany’s steel distribution sector, needed to modernize its training infrastructure because its old LMS could not scale for a global, multi-audience learning environment. BDS also needed better support for external partners, more flexible training pathways, and stronger reporting to manage diverse learners across the steel industry.

Totara, working with partner LearnChamp, provided a scalable multi-tenant learning platform that migrated 70+ courses and 15,000 learning records, created more than 30 learning environments, and added gamification and real-time reporting. With Totara, BDS improved learner engagement, simplified management of different user groups, and reduced administrative overhead, enabling more efficient operations and a stronger foundation for future growth.
