Heathrow Rail Upgrades Compliance Training & Reporting for 1,600 Users With Totara Learn

Heathrow Rail, part of Heathrow Airport’s Engineering and Asset Management team, is responsible for maintaining rail infrastructure used by multiple train operators and for systems such as the Terminal 5 transit. Faced with strict railway legislation requiring frequent refresher training for safety‑critical roles—and a surge in hiring after organisational changes—Heathrow Rail needed a more flexible LMS to support blended learning, speed up onboarding, manage contractor compliance, and simplify complex reporting that the previous Moodle setup couldn’t handle.

Working with AssessTech to implement Totara Learn, Heathrow Rail digitised mandatory training, combined classroom and e‑learning, enabled self‑registration for contractors, and built role‑based reporting and competency tracking. The platform now serves 1,600 users (1,232 active), hosts 116 courses with 5,565 completions, and gives the team clear, auditable compliance data and the ability to send tailored programmes to 120 organisations; the team reports full confidence in compliance status and plans to upgrade for mobile/offline training.
