Flexible Learning for All VDAB’s Open Training Platform

VDAB, the Flemish employment and vocational training service, needed a scalable way to offer lifelong learning to up to 5 million Flemish citizens through its website. The challenge was to make hundreds of online trainings and seminars easy to browse and enroll in, while integrating with VDAB’s custom authentication, internal employee access needs, and website experience. Totara Learn was the platform used to support this open learning offer.

Totara implemented a deep integration with VDAB’s website, including a dedicated plugin for authentication, auto-enrolment, seminar direct registration, custom fields, LTI connections, and reporting integration with Microstrategy. Totara also helped match the website’s look and feel and support tailored roles for internal staff. The result was a large-scale learning platform with over 300 online trainings and 100+ seminars, driving 178,000+ online training registrations, 13,000+ seminar participants, and 60,000+ unique learners annually, while remaining cost-effective for more than 100,000 users.
