Empowering Global Security Training at the United Nations with Totara Learn

UNDSS, the United Nations Department of Safety and Security, needed a scalable way to deliver complex security training to around 10,000 personnel across more than 130 countries. Working with Totara and its Totara Learn platform, UNDSS had to address uneven connectivity, varied learner needs, and time-consuming manual administration while supporting high-stakes training that protects UN staff and operations.

Totara implemented a customized Totara Learn LMS through consultancy workshops with Synergy Learning, using programs and certifications, dynamic audiences, and the Spark theme to create tailored, accessible learning pathways. The result was more efficient assessment and training delivery, reduced costs by filtering candidates before practical exercises, higher standards in close protection training, and improved female representation by helping remove unconscious bias from candidate selection.
