Edinburgh Leisure ‘Eevate’ Their Learning to New Levels

Edinburgh Leisure is the city’s largest physical activity provider—running 30+ venues, 13 gyms, 9 pools and hundreds of classes—and operates as an independent health and wellbeing charity with around 950 permanent staff plus many seasonal, part‑time workers. Their original “ELevate” platform was little more than a dusty content repository with awkward authoring, so L&D needed a modern system that would let authors create content quickly, give all staff easy access to engaging learning, and secure 100% completion of mandatory compliance courses.

Working with Learning Pool, they redeveloped ELevate on Totara Learn in 12 weeks, adding certified compliance modules (including a timely GDPR course), an induction programme for shift and weekend workers, automated recertification and manager self‑service reports, plus an active launch campaign with venue demos. The platform drove adoption—over 6,000 unique course completions, course count grew from 20 to 31, strong user praise for the clean interface, and managers now save time with instant training reports—setting the stage for HR integration and further content development.
