Braemar Hospital Reduces Paper Processes with Easy-to-Use Totara Learn

Braemar Hospital, one of New Zealand’s largest private hospitals founded in 1926 and based in Hamilton, needed a better way to deliver, manage and track clinical and non-clinical training and performance. With more than 100 specialists and around 10,000 procedures a year, Braemar relied on manual, paper-based records that made compliance tracking and external auditing difficult and time-consuming. The organisation required a single LMS to centralise training, certifications and appraisal records across its hierarchy.

Braemar engaged Totara Partner LearningWorks to implement Totara Learn, using a discovery process and HR data import to set up departments, dynamic audiences, customised dashboards, certifications and an integrated Mahara e-portfolio. Features like learning plans, automated certification reminders, an On-the-Job Training plugin and performance management replaced paper workflows and automated role-based training allocation. Within five months the hospital reduced face-to-face training time, gained administration efficiencies, improved visibility and auditability of records, and received strong learner feedback on the system’s simplicity and usability.
