Australian sports anti-doping authority award-winning LMS issues 50,000 open badges

The Australian Sports Anti‑Doping Authority (ASADA) is the government body charged with protecting the integrity of Australian sport, using education to reduce doping and inadvertent anti‑doping rule violations. After a surge of public interest following high‑profile cases in 2013—and with more than 20,000 registered users and a 200% increase in demand—ASADA’s ageing LMS and out‑of‑date Level 1 course could no longer support its education goals, so it partnered with Totara specialist Kineo to deliver a modern, custom solution.

Kineo rebuilt ASADA’s course on the Adapt framework and deployed a responsive Totara Learn platform, featuring a sport‑themed location menu, a medal‑based learner dashboard, guided formative assessment, WCAG 2.0 AA accessibility and Open Badges. The rollout drove strong engagement and measurable impact: 92% of users reported learning something new, 87% found the course relevant, the site grew to 28,000 users (8,000 active), mobile access rose from 15% to 27%, over 50,000 badges were issued, staff workload fell and the course won LearnX Platinum and Gold awards and was adopted as mandatory training by the Australian Institute of Sport.
