A Totara Case Study
Alshaya, a Kuwait‑headquartered multinational operating more than 70 retail and hospitality brands across 19 markets, needed a bespoke, highly flexible LMS to serve a workforce of 110 nationalities speaking nearly 1,000 languages, covering eight career levels and many brand‑specific learning needs. With only ~10% of employees having regular computer access and most learning delivered in English and Arabic, the challenge was to deliver tailored, mobile‑friendly content that supported everything from entry‑level task training to senior‑level strategic learning.
Working with Totara partner iLearn, Alshaya launched "Learning Links" on Totara Learn — an open‑source, customisable platform with branded spaces per company, mobile/BYOD support, forums, feedback, reporting and badge experiments. Since launch (Oct 2016) the platform has grown to over 35,000 users, averaging ~500 new registrations daily (peaking at 11,000 in one day), opened two‑way feedback between learners and managers, and set the organisation on a path to reduce costly face‑to‑face training while expanding online, role‑appropriate learning.
