Afl Coaches Association Equips Coaches and Volunteers With the Skills to Support Mental Wellbeing

The AFL Coaches Association (AFLCA), the representative body that supports the professional and personal development of AFL coaches, launched Tackle Your Feelings to improve mental health resilience across community clubs. Faced with a tight timetable and the need to adapt an overseas program for Australian conditions, AFLCA required a cost-effective, scalable LMS that could reach hundreds of clubs and thousands of coaches with minimal administrative overhead and integrate with the AFL’s existing systems.

AFLCA partnered with Androgogic to deliver a blended program using Totara Learn: face-to-face workshops led by sports psychologists, followed by tailored online modules, automated enrolments and notifications, and a resource library (Coaches Box). The project was delivered on time and on budget, received overwhelmingly positive feedback, increased coaches’ confidence in supporting mental wellbeing, and is scaling nationally—now supporting 500 clubs, reaching tens of thousands of children and families, and expanding training to around 10,000 coaches and committee members.
