A Totara Case Study
Aberdeenshire Council, which delivers services across 6,313 km² and employs 14,500 staff, needed to move from 100% face-to-face training to a blended, learner-centred model. The council required a new LMS that was engaging and cost‑effective, easy for administrators and course creators to use, and supported by reliable hosting and technical support to help drive the cultural change to self-directed learning.
Working with Learning Pool, the council implemented Totara Learn as ALDO (Aberdeenshire Learning and Development Online), using programme-management tools and a “sushi” approach of bite-sized e-learning plus face-to-face sessions so subject experts could build content in-house and keep costs down. Since its 2012 launch ALDO has delivered 78,964 enrolments to date, over 379 courses, more than 19,500 users (about 2,184 monthly), and 14,068 completions of a key Data Protection course, and continues to be enhanced with mobile-friendly access and wider user groups.
